Suspect arrested in Kona shooting 09-06-04

Hawaii County Police Department Patrol Officers responded to the sound of gunshots in the Coconut Grove Marketplace at 1:48 a.m. Monday morning (September 6, 2004).

Officers located a 21-year-old female from Honomu with a gunshot wound to her back and a 30-year-old male whose cell phone had been damaged by a gunshot. Bystanders in the parking lot had subdued a 21-year-old Kailua-Kona male and removed a .25-caliber semi-automatic pistol from his hand. Both the female victim and the suspect were transported to the Kona Community Hospital for treatment. The suspect was treated for injuries which occurred when he was subdued.

The suspect was arrested for two counts of reckless endangering and one count of place to keep firearms. The Kona Criminal Investigation Section is continuing investigation in this case and will be transporting the defendant to the Kona Cellblock on his release from the hospital.
