Tourist from Japan apparently drowns in Heeia Bay 09-24-04

A 60-year-old visitor from Japan died of an apparent drowning while snorkeling Thursday (September 23, 2004) in Heeia Bay in Keauhou, North Kona.

The victim was identified as Teoruo Isobe of Kanagawa Kane, Japan.

About 1:20 p.m., Isobe was found floating face down in the water. Responding fire rescue personnel administered cardio-pulmonary resuscitation on the victim and took him to the Kona Community Hospital, where he died at 12:55 a.m. Friday.

Police have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death and have classified the incident as a coroner’s inquest.
