MEDIA RELEASE

Police are advising Hilo motorists that because Big Island schools will be closed, there will be normal two-way traffic patterns on Waianuenue Avenue and Kapiolani Street for the Thanksgiving holidays (November 22-23, 2001).

The usual weekday one-way traffic patterns will not be in effect because Thursday is Thanksgiving Day. Public schools will also be closed the following day.

The one-way traffic patterns will return when school resumes on Monday (November 26, 2001).

During school days, traffic on Waianuenue below Komohana Street is one-way in the makai direction from 7:15 to 8 a.m. on school days. During the same hours, traffic along Kapiolani between Haili Street and Waianuenue is one-way in the Puna direction.
