Two robbed at Banyan Park 03-21-02

South Hilo police are investigating a report of a robbery that occurred Wednesday (March 20, 2002) at Liliuokalani Park on Banyan Drive in Hilo.

Responding to a 10 p.m. call, police determined that two visitors were confronted on Lihiwai Street by two juvenile males, one of them armed with a butterfly knife, who demanded money.

After taking an undisclosed amount of cash, the two juveniles fled on foot toward Banyan Drive. The two visitors were not hurt.

Anyone with information about the robbery or the identities of the robbers is asked to call Officer Gerard Baptiste at 961-2311 or the police non-emergency number at 935-3311.

Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 329-8181 in Kona or 961-8300 in Hilo. The numbers are answered 24 hours a day. Callers will be given a coded number and their identity will remain anonymous. Callers may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 if their call leads to an arrest, indictment or recovery of property.
