Hilo vice officers arrested a 59-year-old Puna woman Tuesday (October 1, 2002) after seizing four dozen marijuana plants growing on her property in the Kalapana-Black Sands Beach subdivision.

The suspect, identified as Carolyn Anne Steele, was arrested and charged with two counts of second-degree commercial promotion of marijuana, one count of promoting a dangerous drug, two counts of illegal possession of drug paraphernalia and one count of promoting a dangerous drug.

Steele was later released pending further investigation.

Acting on a search warrant Tuesday afternoon, vice officers recovered 48 marijuana plants, all but four of them fully matured, ranging in height from six to eight feet; seven cut marijuana stalks; 3.62 pounds of dried and drying marijuana within the residence; one gram of dried marijuana in the suspect’s purse; a prescription bottle containing oxycodone and the label of another patient; and drug paraphernalia.

Vice officers are continuing the investigation.
