Hilo police arrested a 39-year-old Puna man Friday (August 31, 2001) for attempted murder in a stabbing.

Responding to a 10:35 p.m. call, police arrived at the large pavilion area of Wailoa State Park and found the victim, a 19-year-old Hilo male with apparent stab wounds to his back. Police summoned fire rescue personnel, who took the victim to the Hilo Medical Center, where he was reported in critical condition.

Police learned that several fights were taking place in the park at the time the victim was stabbed.

The suspect, identified as Ronald Paz, of a Hawaiian Paradise Park address, is being held at the Hilo police cellblock pending further investigation by Hilo Criminal Investigation Section detectives.
