Media Release

While the 2020 holiday season in Hawai‘i County may look a little different this year, it still remains our kuleana to keep our roads safe. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has identified specific campaigns during the holidays that the HPD focuses on to prevent injury and fatal crashes. Officers in the Hawai‘i Police Department will be targeting drunk drivers, speeding vehicles, and anyone not wearing a seatbelt. These enforcement practices are all intended to make our community safe.

By Thanksgiving Day 2019 in Hawai‘i County, 23 people had been killed in traffic related crashes. Unfortunately this year 14 people have lost their lives in traffic crashes and every one of them was a tragedy. Please help the HPD help our community and don’t drink alcohol or use any substance that impairs your ability to drive before taking the wheel. Remember “Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving.”

The Hawai‘i Police Department wants everyone to have a happy and safe Thanksgiving.
