During the week of November 14, 2022, through November 20, 2022, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 16 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Two of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. One of the drivers was under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 877 DUI arrests compared with 960 during the same period last year, a decrease of 8.7 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 737 major accidents so far this year compared with 718 during the same period last year, an increase of 2.6 percent.
To date, there were 31 fatal crashes (one fatal crash reclassified on 05/30/22 due to a medical condition) resulting in 33 fatalities (one of which had multiple deaths, and one reclassified due to a medical condition), compared with 25 fatal crashes, resulting in 25 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents an increase of 24 percent for fatal crashes, and 32 percent for fatalities.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
