Big Island police are warning the public about someone claiming to be soliciting donations for the Hawaii Island Police Activities League, or HI-PAL.

Hawaii County residents have reported getting phone calls asking for donations. HI-PAL does not solicit donations.

Officers are investigating a possible suspect in the case.

Police ask anyone who receives a call asking for HI-PAL donations to call Officer Joseph Botelho Jr. at 961-2220.
