Body Discovered at Fire 08-28-01

Ka’u Patrol and Fire Department units responded to a structure fire Monday (August 27, 2001) located on the southwest corner of Makai Boulevard and Jasmine Drive within the Kona Ranchos Subdivision in Ka’u.

At about 11:28 a.m., units found a 300-square-foot structure fully engulfed in flames. The fire was quickly extinguished, and a search of the burned structure was conducted. During the Fire Department’s investigation into the cause of the fire, personnel discovered a charred body that was within the residence.

The victim was transported to the Kona Community Hospital, where an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death as well as positive identification.

Police have classified the incident as a coroner’s inquest.
