During the week of June 20-June 26, 2006, Big Island police arrested 26 motorists for drunk driving. Four of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes and three one was the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been a total of 562 DUI arrests, compared with a revised total of 477 during the same period last year, an increase of 18 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There has been a revised total of 1,209 major accidents so far this year, compared with a revised total of 1,175 during the same period last year, an increase of 3 percent.

There has been a total of 17 traffic fatalities on the Big Island so far this year, compared with 16 for the same period last year, an increase of 6 percent.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
