MEDIA RELEASE

Big Island police seized a total of 4,150 marijuana plants ranging in height from seedlings to 5 feet during the past three days as part of its continuing “Counter-Cannabis Field Operation.”

The plants were seized in the South Hilo, Puna and Ka’u Districts.

Joining Big Island police officers in the marijuana eradication enforcement effort were personnel from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, the Hawaii Army National Guard and the State Department of Conservation and Resources Enforcement.

During the three-day operation, officers executed two search warrants, which resulted in the confiscation of 1,090 additional marijuana plants, 24.6 grams of dried marijuana, drug parapernalia and a 1986 GMC pickup truck.

A couple was also arrested and released pending further investigation.
