>>Hilo>> police have arrested a 36-year-old Hamakua man wanted for escape. 

Sunday evening (>September 10, 2006>) at about >8 p.m.>, Konrad Ross turned himself in at the >>Hilo>> police station. Ross had been sought following his escape from police custody on >September 6, 2006>.

>On the evening of his escape, Ross had been arrested on a warrant for violating the terms of his release on bail.  He freed himself from hard plastic restraints and fled from the officers on foot. At the time, officers assigned to the >>North Hilo> district were in the process of transferring custody of Ross to officers from the South Hilo District, who were to take him to the >>Hilo>> police cellblock.

>Ross is being held at the >>>Hilo>> police cellblock pending an initial court appearance for the original charge for which he was in custody. Detectives assigned to the East Hawaii Criminal Investigations Section are continuing the investigation into the escape.

>The public is cautioned that any individual who knowingly harbors or conceals someone wanted by police may be charged with hindering prosecution, a Class C felony punishable by up to five years in prison.>
