MEDIA RELEASE

The Hawaii Isle Police Activities League is sponsoring its annual HI-PAL Boys and Girls Intermediate Basketball League.

League play will start on September 17 and run through November 16, 2002.

With the help of the HI-PAL staff, teams will be formed within their public or private intermediate schools and will play against other intermediate schools.

All registered seventh and eighth grade players will go through a draft system within their schools. Home school students and students who attend schools that cannot form a team will be placed on teams that don’t have enough players.

The league will be limited to the first 18 teams for boys and 12 teams for girls.

A mandatory meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on September 4, 2002, at the Hilo police station’s training room for responsible adults interested in coaching a team. Adults must be present at this meeting to confirm they are willing to coach. The HI-PAL program reserves the right to accept coaches.

Anyone interested in participating on a team, as coach or as a player, is asked to call the HI-PAL office at 961-2219 or 961-2220 for more information.
