During the week of January 18, 2016, through January 24, 2016, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 17 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Six of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. One was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 71 DUI arrests compared with 67 during the same period last year, an increase of 6 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 85 major accidents so far this year compared with 72 during the same period last year, an increase of 18.1 percent.

So far this year, there have been no fatalities compared with one during the same period last year. This is a decrease of 100 percent.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
