Media Release (Update)

On Tuesday morning (February 18) an autopsy was performed on the body of a male found deceased on the edge of the Wailuku Riverbank in Hilo.

The pathologist determined that 28-year-old Isaac Wessel-Rivera’s cause of death was hanging, and the manner of death was ruled a suicide.  

On Friday evening (February 14) 32-year-old Westen Kamuela Tegman of Hilo was taken into custody for questioning. Upon further investigation and conferring with Hawaiʻi County Prosecutors, Tegman was released from police custody.

In the review of developments in this investigation and in light of the autopsy findings, Tegman has been cleared and, there are no pending criminal charges against him.
