The Hawaiʻi Police Department Firearms Section located at the South Hilo Police Station at 349 Kapiolani Street in Hilo will be closed for walk-in service on Thursday (March 19, 2020) and Friday, (March 20, 2020) in preparation for a system update. The firearms staff will be available via telephone on those dates to answer questions by calling (808) 961-2233.  

In an effort to increase safety in light of the COVID-19 threat and better serve the public, firearms registration services at South Hilo Police Station will be by appointment only beginning on Monday (March 23, 2020) walk-in service without an appointment will no longer be provided, no exceptions.

The Firearms Section will be scheduling appointments Monday-Friday (except holidays) from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Members of the public who wish to make an appointment for firearms services at the South Hilo Police Station at 349 Kapiolani Street in Hilo should call (808) 961-2233. This change to an appointment-based system mirrors the policy currently in place at all other police stations around the island.
