Two people have been arrested and charged with crimes in connection with a stolen vehicle.

On Saturday (March 26) a Toyota 4Runner was taken from 19th Avenue in the Hawaiian Paradise Park subdivision in Puna.

On Monday, Officers spotted the Toyota on Saddle Road and followed it to Hilo, where a man and a woman fled from the vehicle. The two, 22-year-old Kimo Oberle of Hilo and 18-year-old Keahi Javine of Keaʻau, were arrested nearby and taken to the Hilo police cellblock while officers continued the investigation.

The vehicle was recovered.

On Tuesday, Oberle was charged with unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle. His bail was set at $2,000. Javine was charged with burglary, unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle and unauthorized possession of personal confidential information. Her bail was set at $9,000.

Both remained at the cellblock pending their initial court appearance scheduled for Wednesday (March 30).
