Media Release

A 17-year-old male student was arrested Tuesday (April 28) following a temporary lockdown at Keaʻau High School.

In response to a 10:19 a.m. call, Puna Patrol officers responded to Keaʻau High School. They learned that a 17-year-old boy had physically harassed and threatened school employees who were attempting to detain him after receiving information that he was planning to fight with another student. The student then fled the campus, triggering the lockdown.

Police located the student at Herbert Shipman Park, commonly known as “Shipman ballpark,” at 11:18 a.m. He was arrested on suspicion of harassment, truancy and two counts of first-degree terroristic threatening.

After conferring with the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney, police released the student pending further investigation.
