During the week of May 4, 2020, through May 11, 2020, Hawaiʻi Island Police arrested fourteen (14) motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Three of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. None of the drivers were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 316 DUI arrests compared with 409 during the same period last year a decrease of 22.7 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 290 major accidents so far this year compared with 341 during the same period last year, a decrease of 15 percent.
To date, there were 8 fatal crashes, resulting in 8 fatalities, compared with 6 fatal crashes, resulting in 6 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents an increase of 33.3 percent for fatal crashes and 33.3 percent for fatalities.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide.
