Media Release

A Puna man has been arrested and charged with burglary for a break-in in Keaʻau in May.

On May 12, a 25-year-old man reported that he woke up to discover a stranger in his house on the 16-200 block of Ilima Street. The unknown man reportedly took the victim’s car key and fled on foot.

A witness in the house recorded the suspect on his cell phone, which helped police identify him as 26-year-old Xanthin Melekalikimaka Berdon of Pāhoa.

Berdon was arrested Tuesday (July 12) and charged with first-degree burglary and two “no-bail” counts of violating probation. His bail for the burglary was set at $25,000.

He is scheduled to make his initial court appearance on Wednesday (July 13).
