A Mountain View woman has been charged with two felonies in connection with a burglary in Hawaiian Acres.

On July 22, a woman returned to her home on Road 9 in Hawaiian Acres and discovered that it had been broken into. A woman in a vehicle in front of her house claimed she had car trouble. The victim called 911 but the suspicious woman left the scene before officers arrived.

Early Tuesday morning (July 28), South Hilo Patrol officers arrested 29-year-old Sheri Bowers on two unrelated bench warrants for failure to appear in court on traffic violations. She was taken to the Hilo police cellblock in lieu of $300 bail until her court appearance later Tuesday.

While she was in custody, investigators from the Area I Criminal Investigations Section determined that Bowers was responsible for the July 22 break-in and arrested her on suspicion of burglary. At 6:40 p.m. Tuesday, she was charged with first-degree burglary and second-degree theft. Her bail on those offenses was set at $7,000.

She remained in the cellblock pending her initial court appearance scheduled for Wednesday (July 29).
