Hawaiʻi Island police have identified the owner of an antique pistol with an ivory handle that was recovered during a police investigation.

Thanks to tips from the public, officers identified the owner on July 20.

Further investigation led to the identity of a suspect, 26-year-old Chas Akiona of Pāpaʻikou, who was in custody at Hawaiʻi Community Correctional Center for an unrelated matter.

Akiona was arrested Friday (July 31) and charged with first-degree theft. His bail was set at $25,000. His initial court appearance is scheduled for Monday (August 3). In the meantime, he was returned to Hawaiʻi Community Correctional Center.
