An 18-year old Puna man is in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries after sustaining a fall from a cliff at the MacKenzie State Recreation Area in Puna on August 13, 2020.

The man, identified as Micah Castro of Keaʻau, was fishing with friends when he slipped. Hawaiʻi Fire Rescue crews were able to rappel down the cliff and bring the man to safety. He was taken to the Hilo Medical Center for treatment to his injuries.

Castro was last listed in stable condition.

The incident is being investigated as a public accident by police and no foul play is suspected.
