Hawaiʻi Island police have charged a 34-year-old Kailua-Kona man in connection with an assault that occurred last month in Kona.

On Friday (October 28), police responded to a report of an unknown type of disturbance near a service station located on the 75-900 block of Henry Street in Kailua-Kona. Responding officers located an unconscious man with injuries to his head. The 39-year-old man was transported to the Kona Community Hospital by ambulance and later medi-vacked to a hospital on Oahu for further treatment where he remains in critical condition.

Investigation led to the identity of a suspect, 34-year-old Anthony Graham Beaudet-Close of Kailua-Kona. He was arrested Sunday morning (November 6), on suspicion of assault after turning himself in at the Kealakehe Police Station. He was taken to the Kona police cellblock while detectives from the Area II Criminal Investigations Section continued the investigation.

At 3:00 p.m. Monday (November 7), he was charged with assault in the first degree and attempted murder. His bail was set at $150,000. He is being held at the Kona cellblock pending his initial court appearance scheduled for Wednesday (November 9).
