During the week of Nov. 8, 2021, through Nov. 14, 2021, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 24 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Three of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. None of the drivers were under the age of 21.  

So far this year, there have been 948 DUI arrests compared with 853 during the same period last year, an increase of 11.1 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 697 major accidents so far this year compared with 678 during the same period last year, an increase of 2.8 percent. 

To date, there were 23 fatal crashes, resulting in 23 fatalities, compared with 14 fatal crashes, resulting in 14 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents an increase of 64.3 percent for fatal crashes, and 64.3 percent for fatalities. The traffic fatality that occurred yesterday will appear in next weekʻs update.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
