Correction: The following media release has been edited. Under long gun permits, applicants must have completed a hunter’s educations course in the past four years. It can not be substituted with a certified training class conducted by a certified instructor.

The Hawai‘i Police Department announces that on January 1, 2024, changes in SB1230, the law regarding the firearm permitting process, will go into effect.

Among the changes to the application form:

Handgun permits
