A person operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicating substance is a significant problem on our nation’s highways. This serious problem occurs here in Hawaiʻi County far too often. Fatalities that occur as a result of someone consuming alcohol or drugs are 100% preventable. If you drink alcohol, smoke marijuana or use some form of drug “Don’t Drive.”  It’s that simple.

If you attend a party or gathering make smart choices and plan how you’re going to get home safely afterward. Designate a sober driver, call for a taxi or use a rideshare program like Uber or Lyft. There are no excuses and no reason to risk your life or other people on the road.  “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.”

If you see a driver that appears to be intoxicated, call the Hawaiʻi Police Department at (808) 935-3311 or if it’s an emergency call 911. HPD Officers will be out searching for drivers who are under the influence. Please do your part and help keep our roadways safe tonight.
