Big Island police are seeking the public’s help in solving the theft of about 1,200 flowers Tuesday (March 16, 2004) from a flower farm near Pahoa, Puna.

Police investigators determined that sometime between noon and 3 p.m., a thief or thieves stole about 1,200 anthuriums from a Floral Resources Hawaii, Inc., farm located at Kahakai Boulevard and Pahoa Road (Route 130). The stolen flowers — red, pink, green and Kalapana Obaki — were valued at $3,600.

Police are warning buyers to be aware that unfamiliar anthurium sellers might be selling stolen flowers.

Anyone with information about the theft or the identity of the thieves is asked to call Officer Michael DeCoito of the Puna Patrol at 966-5835 or the police non-emergency number at 935-3311.

Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona. The numbers are answered 24 hours a day. Callers will be given a coded number and their identity will remain anonymous. Callers may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 if their call leads to an arrest, indictment or the recovery of property. Crime Stoppers neither subscribes to “Caller ID,” nor does it record phone calls.
