Hawai‘i Island police have arrested and charged 60-year-old Vance Elroy Bond of Hilo with domestic related offenses following an incident in Hilo on Monday morning, February 5, 2024.
At 7:50 a.m., Hilo patrol officers responded to an active domestic at a hotel establishment on Puueo Street in Hilo. Upon arrival, officers determined that a physical domestic occurred between Bond and his 52-year-old former girlfriend, who sustained extensive bruising and swelling to her facial area. Officers determined that Bond refused to let the victim leave after multiple attempts, and held her against her will within the hotel room.
Bond allegedly struck her multiple times causing a nasal bone fracture, a large facial hematoma, neck and back strain, and a concussion. The victim was transported to the Hilo Medical Center in stable condition where she was treated and released the same day.
On Monday afternoon, after conferring with County Prosecutor’s Office, detectives from the Area I Juvenile Aid Section charged Bond with the following offenses:
- Second-degree assault
- Abuse of a family household member
- Kidnapping
His bail was set at $86,500.
Bond’s initial court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday, February 6, in Hilo District Court.
