During the week of February 6, 2023, through February 12, 2023, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 15 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Six of the drivers were involved in a traffic collision. One of the drivers was under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 130 DUI arrests compared with 127 during the same period last year, an increase of 2.4 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

After a review of all updated crashes, Traffic Services found 114 major collisions so far this year compared with 89 during the same period last year, an increase of 28.1 percent.
To date, there have been 4 fatal crashes, resulting in 5 fatalities, compared with 5 fatal crashes, resulting in 7 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents a decrease of 20 percent for fatal crashes, and 28.6 percent for fatalities.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
** Last week’s South Hilo year-to-date DUI total was 23. However, an additional DUI arrest on February 5, 2023, was identified in Hilo and has been added to this week’s total.
