Media Release

The Hawai‘i Police Department’s Community Policing Section in Hilo extends its gratitude to the Boy Scouts of America Aloha Council for allowing us to participate in the Hawai‘i Island Makahiki celebration on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at the Edith Kanakaole Tennis Stadium.

We value the chance to engage with the Boy Scouts and their families and enjoyed assisting them with fingerprinting activities required for merit badge completion. Attendees were exposed to numerous scouting skills and also participated in a friendly Iron Chef competition.

Due to the pandemic, the Makahiki had been on hiatus but was revived this year. We hope that future Makahiki events will help revitalize the Scouting experience. The Hilo Community Policing Section would also like to thank the other organizations that participated in fostering the Boy Scouts of America organization.

We hope to collaborate further to enhance this organization and support the Scouts in earning credits for various merit badges.
