Media Release

During the week of April 19, 2021, through April 25, 2021, Hawai`i Island police arrested 21 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Three of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. Three of the drivers were under the age of 21.  

So far this year, there have been 405 DUI arrests compared with 288 during the same period last year, an increase of 40.6 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 249 major accidents so far this year compared with 269 during the same period last year, a decrease of 7.4 percent. 

To date, there were 8 fatal crashes, resulting in 8 fatalities, compared with 8 fatal crashes, resulting in 8 fatalities for the same time last year. 

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
