4-27-22 Hilo Man Arrested and Charged for 23 Counts of Sex Assault Involving a Minor

Hawai‘i Island police arrested a 64-year-old Hilo man on the strength of a bench warrant after indictment for 23 counts of sex assault involving a minor. The indictment involves sexual acts with a minor that occurred from September 2014 to January 2018. 

Paul Kanaina Kaelemakule Caitano of Hilo turned himself in this morning at the Hilo Police Station after being notified of the outstanding warrant. He was subsequently charged for 13 counts of third-degree sexual assault, eight counts of first-degree sexual assault, and two counts of continuous sexual assault of a minor under the age of 14. His bail was set in the amount of $500,000. Caitano’s initial court appearance is set for Wednesday, April 27, 2022, in the Third Circuit Court.
