Hawai‘i Island police are investigating the discovery of a body found near the intersection of Palani Road and Queen Ka‘ahumanu Highway in Kailua-Kona.

On Tuesday, May 17, 2022, shortly before 9:30 a.m., Kona patrol officers responded to the intersection of Palani Road and Queen Ka‘ahumanu Highway after receiving a report of a lifeless body near a tree.

The victim was transported to the Hilo Medical Center for official pronouncement of death and scheduling of an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Police have identified the victim as a 63-year-old resident of Kailua-Kona; however, his identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Detectives with the Area II Criminal Investigation Section responded to the scene and are continuing this investigation, which is currently classified as a coroner’s inquest.
