5-31-23 (Update) Police Seeking Witnesses in Ocean View Attempted Murder Investigation

Hawaiʻi Island police are continuing their investigation into a shooting incident that occurred in the Hawaiian Ocean View Estates subdivision on Saturday afternoon, May 27, 2023.   

Shortly after 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Ka‘u patrol officers responded to a report of a man with a gunshot wound at a residence in the 92-8000 block of Leilani Parkway, in Hawaiian Ocean View Estates. Upon arrival, officers determined that the victim received three gunshots wounds as a result of an altercation between himself and a neighbor.

The suspect, 47-year-old Thomas Allen of Ocean View, was taken into custody without incident by Ka‘u patrol officers shortly after 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.

The victim, a 32-year-old Ocean View man, was initially transported to Kona Community Hospital and subsequently transferred to Queens Medical Center on Oahu, where he remains in stable condition.

On Sunday, May 28, detectives with the Area II Criminial Investigation Section executed a series of search warrants on the residence in which Allen was apprehended and recovered a total of 23 firearms and various ammunition.   

At 1:30 p.m on Monday, May 29, after conferring with the County Prosecutor’s Office, Allen was released pending further investigation. Detectives with the Area II Criminal Investigation Section are continuing this investigation and upon completion, the investigation will be sent to the County Prosecutor’s Office.
