6-05-21 Police Respond to Major Disturbance at Hawai’i Community Correctional Center

On Friday, June 4, 2021, at about 7:26 p.m., approximately ten officers from the Hawai’i Police Department’s Patrol Division responded to the Hawai’i Community Correctional Center located at 60 Punahele Street in response to a call for assistance relative to approximately 40 inmates causing a major disturbance within the facility.

The Hawai’i Police Department provided perimeter security while order was restored and until being relieved by the Department of Public Safety Sheriff’s Division.

There were no reports of any serious injuries.

The Department of Public Safety is the lead agency and their investigation remains ongoing.
