Hawai’i Island police request the publics assistance in identifying woman who passed a counterfeit $100 bill.

On April 24, 2024, at about 2:32 p.m., South Hilo patrol officers responded to a business establishment located on East Puainako Street in Hilo, for a reported theft.

During their investigation, officers determined that on April 24, 2024, at about 2:20 p.m., an elderly Asian female purchased a large amount of produce with a counterfeit $100 bill. The bill was later checked with a counterfeit detection device which revealed that it was counterfeit.

Police have attached photographs of the woman that passed the bill, which were taken by the business’s video surveillance system. Those with information regarding this investigation or the woman’s identity may contact Detective Jenny Lee at (808) 961-2279 or at jenny.lee@hawaiicounty.gov.
