Media Release

Hawai’i Island police have identified the woman suspected of passing a counterfeit $100 bill on April 24, 2024, at a business in Hilo.

Area I Criminal Investigation Section detectives identified the woman on Saturday, June 8, 2024, following numerous tips from the public identifying her as the owner of a business in Hilo.

At this time, police believe the woman’s business unknowingly received the counterfeit bill as payment for goods, and that she is not responsible for producing any counterfeit U.S. Currency.

Police would like to thank the public for their assistance, which led to identifying the woman, and ultimately determining that she is not a suspect in this on-going investigation.  Anyone with information regarding this investigation may contact Detective Jenny Lee at (808) 961-2279 or at jenny.lee@hawaiicounty.gov.
