Media Release

Hawai’i Island police are searching for 52-year-old Joseph Smithey, who family members say they have not heard from since late May 2021. Smithey is known to frequent the Mountain View and Kurtistown area and is in need of medical attention.

He is described as being a Caucasian male, 6’0” in height, and weighing approximately 160-170 pounds, with red and gray hair, and having a tan complexion.

There is no last known clothing description for Smithey.

Police ask anyone with information on his whereabouts to call the Police Department’s non-emergency line at (808) 935-3311, with attention to Officer Kyle Murray.
