During the week of June 26, 2023, through July 2, 2023, Hawai`i Island police arrested fifteen (15) motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Four of the drivers were involved in a traffic collision. One of the drivers arrested was under the age of twenty-one.
So far this year, there have been 499 DUI arrests compared with 526 during the same period last year. This is a decrease of 5.13 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

Hawai’i Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 432 major collisions so far this year compared with 387 during the same period last year, an increase of 11.63 percent.
To date, there have been 9 fatal crashes, resulting in 10 fatalities, (one of which had multiple deaths); compared with 18 fatal crashes, resulting in 20 fatalities (one of which had multiple deaths) for the same time last year. This represents a decrease of 50 percent for fatal crashes, and 50 percent for fatalities.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
