During the week of July 17, 2023, through July 23, 2023, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 12 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Three of the drivers were involved in a traffic collision. One of the drivers arrested was under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 548 DUI arrests compared with 580 during the same period last year, a decrease of 5.5 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

Hawai‘i Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 467 major collisions so far this year compared with 451 during the same period last year, an increase of 3.5 percent.
To date, there have been nine fatal crashes, resulting in 10 fatalities, (one of which had multiple deaths); compared with 21 fatal crashes, resulting in 23 fatalities (one of which had multiple deaths) for the same time last year. This represents a decrease of 57.1 percent for fatal crashes, and 56.5 percent for fatalities.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
