7-31-23 Police Seeking Two Female Runaways in East Hawai‘i

Hawai‘i Island police are asking for the public’s assistance in locating two female teens, who were reported as runaways in separate incidents in East Hawai‘i.

Fifteen-year-old Uilani Leaverton, (Report #: 23-070073) was last seen on Friday, July 21, 2023, at 5:35 p.m. in the 1100 block of Waiānuenue Avenue in Hilo wearing a camouflage long-sleeve shirt and black shorts. She is described as Hawaiian with a fair complexion and medium build, about 5 feet 6 inches tall, 145 pounds, with long, wavy brown hair and brown eyes.  

Fourteen-year-old Meela Kobashigawa, (Report #: 23-072333) was last seen on Saturday, July 22, 2023, at about 10:30 a.m., in the area of Malanani Place in Hilo. She is described as Japanese with a light complexion and thin build, about 4 feet 10 inches tall, 95 pounds, with shoulder-length red dyed hair and brown eyes.  

Police ask anyone with information on either teen’s whereabouts to please call the police department’s non-emergency line at (808) 935-3311 or contact Officer Roger Carvalho at roger.carvalho@hawaiicounty.gov regarding Leaverton’s whereabouts or Officer Lawrence Kobayashi at lawrence.kobayashi@hawaiicounty.gov regarding Kobashigawa’s whereabouts.
