Media Release (update)

Hawaiʻi Island police are renewing their request for information about a two-vehicle traffic accident September 3 on the Hawaii Belt Road (Route 11) just south of the Kamehameha III Highway intersection.

During the investigation, police learned that a green Subaru or Isuzu sports utility vehicle may have caused the victim, Breanna Fujimoto, to cross the centerline of the roadway just prior to the head-on collision with a 2015 Nissan SUV.

Due to this new information, police have reclassified this traffic fatality from a coroner’s inquest investigation to a negligent homicide investigation.

Police ask anyone who may have witnessed either the collision or the green SUV leaving the scene of the collision to call Officer Justin Hooser at 326-4646, extension 229. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300.
