Hawai’i Island police are requesting the public’s assistance in identifying two males who are “persons of interest” in an assault investigation.

On Saturday, July 30, 2023, at approximately 4:07 a.m., Kona Patrol officers responded to a reported assault in which several unidentified males were assaulting another male in the 75-5600 block of Palani Road.

Upon officers’ arrival, they contacted a 51-year-old male and a 18-year-old male who reported being assaulted by male individuals who were unknown to them. Both of the victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Officers conducted physical checks for the suspects in the immediate and surrounding areas however were not able to locate them.  After reviewing video surveillance footage, officers were able to distinguish two “persons of interest” and are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the male individuals.

The first male is described as possibly in his late teens or early 20s, having a stocky build, light brown complexion, and beard. He was last seen wearing black-colored shorts, a white-colored T-shirt with orange-colored logos, black-colored socks, and black-colored shoes.

The second male is described as having a thin build with a light brown complexion. He was last seen wearing an orange-colored softball-type jersey with the number 002 on the back and sleeve, black-colored sweatpants with a white-colored seam, and no shoes.
