Hawai‘i Island police arrested and charged 58-year-old David Scott Paulino for two counts of abuse family household member, first degree sex assault, and first degree terroristic threating after responding to a domestic incident that occurred on Sunday, July 31, 2022, on Ululani Street in Hilo.

The charges against Paulino stem from an incident that took place during the early morning hours on Sunday, July 31, in which Paulino struck the victim several times, strangulated her with his hands, sexually assaulted her, threatened her with a knife, and took her phone away while she attempted to call police. 

On Wednesday morning, August 3, after conferring with the County Prosecutors Office, detectives charged Paulino with two counts of abuse family household member, two counts of first degree sex assault, first degree terroristic threating, and interference with reporting an emergency or crime. His bail was set at $123,000.

Paulino remains in police custody pending his initial court appearance scheduled for Thursday, August 4, in Hilo District Court.
