During the week of March 15, 2021, through March 21, 2021, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 24 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Four of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. One of the drivers was under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 283 DUI arrests compared with 256 during the same period last year, an increase of 10.6 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 166 major accidents so far this year compared with 224 during the same period last year, a decrease of 25.9 percent.
To date, there were 6 fatal crashes, resulting in 6 fatalities, compared with 7 fatal crashes, resulting in 7 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents a decrease of 14.3 percent for fatal crashes, and 14.3 percent for fatalities.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
