A 72-year-old man died Wednesday (December 23) in waters off Kealakekua Bay in South Kona.

Responding to a 1:37 p.m. call from Kona Community Hospital, police learned that at about 10:30 a.m., Clarence Bolt of Prosser, Washington, was snorkeling when he was observed to be unresponsive in the water. He was taken by ambulance to Kona Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:45am.

Police do not suspect foul play. They have classified the death as a coroner’s inquest and have ordered an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
