Media Release

Hawaii County police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a group of males who attacked two men on Banyan Drive on March 2.

A group of approximately five local males approached a 26-year-old Hilo man and a 20-year-old man from France near a bus stop on the golf course side of the road and asked them if they wanted to make a donation. The suspects then knocked both victims to the ground, searched their pockets and removed their wallets and wrist watches. One of the attackers was described as a local male with short, bleached hair wearing a green basketball jersey.

Both victims suffered injures, but the Hilo man refused treatment. He drove the French man to Hilo Medical Center, where the French man was treated for his injuries and released.

At the time of the assault, numerous people were gathered in the vicinity.

Police ask anyone with information about the identity of the attackers to call Officer Jeremy Kubojiri at 961-2213 or the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311.
