MEDIA RELEASE UPDATE

Police have identified a man whose body was found Thursday (September 16, 1999) in Keauhou, North Kona. The victim was identified through dental records as Donald Ray Gatewood, 59, of Keauhou.

Gatewood’s body was found about a quarter mile southeast of the Keauhou Country Club Golf Course. An autopsy conducted by a forensic pathologist and evidence found at the scene indicated that the victim died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. A firearm was found next to the body.

Police have reclassified the case as a suicide.
